Dental Implants in Fort Lauderdale

Do you need to have a dental implant procedure performed? If you have lost or missing teeth, dental implants may be an excellent option to traditional bridgework. The benefit is that the implanted tooth is more secure than other options and does not rely or effect the neighboring teeth for its positioning or support.

Dental Implant Advantages

  • They avoid gum recession and bone loss which often happens with traditional bridges and with denture use.
  • They’re silent so there is no or clicking noises.
  • They are stationary so they can’t be lost, broken or need cleaning.
  • They are durable and with very reliable.
  • They preserve bone health by substituting for the missing root, thus providing the mass to help the bone retain its natural size.
  • They do not have restrictions with eating particular foods, as dentures may.

How are dental implants positioned?

The most common process is the endosteal implant (inside the bone). This is a good alternative for people with bridges or dentures.

The other method is subperiosteal (on top of the bone and under the the membrane covering the bone, the periosteum). This type of dental implant may be performed on people who have less bone height, density or are otherwise not acceptable candidates for an endosteal implant.

Several months after the procedure, the dental implant will begin to secure permanently. During this healing phase, you may wear a temporary tooth. When the gum and bone are ready, the new tooth, called a crown, is affixed to the protruding end, the abutment, of the implant. This new tooth becomes a part of your dental work as securely as your natural teeth and soon thereafter, you can resume normal dental activities.
